You Are Never Too Young, Too Inexperienced, Too ..To Work On Client Development

Developing the Next Generation of Rainmakers You are never too young, too inexperienced, too…to work on client development Frequently young lawyers tell me they are too young, too inexperienced or too something else to be successful at client development. That keeps those lawyers from actually starting their client development efforts. I often respond by telling those lawyers to pretend they are on their own and the ability to feed their family depends on their client development efforts. I want them to treat client development like they have no choice, but to do it. I also suggest that young lawyers quit focusing on what they don’t have and instead focus on what they do have. What advantages might you have over older, more experienced lawyers? If you are hungry to become more valuable to your potential clients and if you are willing to do what older lawyers are not doing, you have a real opportunity. The name of the game is to become known as a “go to” lawyer by as many potential clients in your target market as possible. Frankly, the more people who know you, know what you do and like you, the more likely you will get hired. It is never too early to create a focused plan. It is never too early to start building relationships. You are never too young, too inexperienced, too…to become visible and credible, build relationships and begin your journey to success. What are doing now that you to take advantage of your youthful energy, drive and desire to learn and be more valuable to your clients?     I practiced law for 37 years developing a national construction law practice representing some of the top highway and transportation construction contractors in the US.
